Bart Abplanalp received his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin. He completed postdoctoral forensic work at the Court Diagnostic and Treatment Center in Toledo, Ohio and the Pretrial Evaluation Unit of Dorothea Dix Forensic Hospital in Raleigh, North Carolina. His primary areas of focus within these populations was assessment of malingering, competency to stand trial, and insanity pleas. He began working for the Washington Department of Corrections in 2001 and helped develop the Co-Occurring Disorders Therapeutic Community at McNeil Island. He expanded the scope of his practice to include work at the Reception and Diagnostic Center and Lincoln Park Work Release, which services the mentally ill and developmentally disabled population. Dr. Abplanalp has served as an expert witness for the ACLU and Southern Poverty Law Center, and worked as a consultant with numerous state and federal prison systems. He currently serves as Chief Psychologist of the Washington Department of Corrections.
